DESKTOP WALLPAPER

(Bold text in red or black on this page is not linked to anything)
The first thing you see after you boot up your computer is the "desktop" screen where all your program icons show up.  The "desktop" is the "background," otherwise called "desktop wallpaper," which is usually the dull and boring default Windows desktop.  To change your desktop wallpaper, click on START>CONTROL PANEL>Appearance and Themes.  Then click "Change the desktop background."  Then you can select the background you want, but the Microsoft backgrounds are pretty dull.  You can change that by going to the following site at Dizzie's (link below) to get a special wallpaper.

But first, notice which screen resolution you are using.  Usually, there are 3 resolutions:

640 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768

To find out which screen resolution you are using, go back into CONTROL PANEL and click on "Change the screen resolution."  There you will see which screen resolution you are using.  This is important to know before you choose a new desktop pattern.  Choose the desktop wallpaper for the screen resolution that you are currently using.

Ok, here's that great site where
you can get a wonderful desktop pattern!

Dizzie's Desktop Wallpapers

Very nice sets here and very realistic, like the deskpads she offers.  When you get to her page, notice that above each wallpaper image are the screen resolutions.  Click on the resolution that you are using.  Then you will see that large image on the page.  Place your mouse directly over the image and RIGHT CLICK once.  Then you will see a pop-up box with various options.  Select SET AS WALLPAPER.  You won't notice any change until you minimize your browser and voila--you see the image as your new desktop.  Dizzie says that "If you save more than 1 desktop, Windows will override the first one and it will be gone. Therefore, save the 2nd one by right clicking and 'save as' to your hard drive. Or, go to your Windows folder and rename the first one. It will be called 'Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp' or 'Netscape Wallpaper.bmp', depending on your browser."
One more thing:  after your get your new wallpaper, you may want to move your program icons around the desktop.  What if they don't move when you try to "click and drag" them around?  No need to worry.  All you have to do is RIGHT CLICK once on the desktop background and you'll see a pop-up message box.  Just move your mouse over "ARRANGE ICONS." UNCHECK "Auto Arrange" and UNCHECK "Align to grid."  Then you can click and drag your icons wherever you want them on your new desktop.

I will have some additional sites for desktop wallpaper as soon as I find some that are as good as Dizzie's!
